Instant film looks soft

Polaroid and similar instant prints often show low contrast, gentle blur, and light surface scratches. Restore mode can make faces and clothing easier to read on screen.

02

Honest chemical limits

Heavy chemical damage or a completely blank emulsion cannot be invented faithfully. Keep the original print and scan when the image is mostly gone.

03

Preview before you pay

Review the watermarked restore side by side with your upload. Unlock HD only if the cleanup still feels like your photo.

What restoring Polaroid photos can and cannot do

AI restore mode helps with the softness and light marks that come with many instant prints—muted contrast, slight haze, and fine scratches on the plastic window or scanned surface. The model predicts clearer pixels from surrounding texture so a childhood Polaroid or Instax snapshot is easier to share.

It cannot faithfully invent detail that chemistry erased. Blown-out whites, blank patches from failed development, or severe peel damage should stay labeled as AI-assisted guesses. Keep the physical Polaroid and the untouched scan as your source.

How to prepare a Polaroid or Instax scan

Scan or photograph the Polaroid flat in even light with the camera parallel to the print. Crop the white border if it distracts the model—especially thick Instant frames—so faces and clothing fill more of the frame. Upload that crop, choose Restore, and zoom in on eyes and text before unlocking HD.

If the Polaroid is also black and white (or you want a color interpretation later), restore first so colorization starts from clearer shapes. For antique heirlooms or water stains instead of instant-film softness, see the related pages linked below.

Costs and next steps

Credits unlock HD downloads at $2.99/1, $6.99/3, $9.99/10, and $49/50. Preview first and pay once only when satisfied. For workflow tips, see restore-or-colorize-first; for general clarity work, see restore-old-photos.

Common questions

Know what AI can—and cannot—recover.

Can AI fully fix a faded Polaroid?

It often improves softness and light scratches on readable prints, but heavy chemical damage or blank emulsion cannot be reconstructed faithfully. Preview before unlocking HD.

Should I crop the white Polaroid border?

Yes when the thick frame dominates the upload. Cropping so the photo fills more of the frame usually helps the model focus on faces and detail.

Does restore change my original Polaroid file?

No. You upload a copy and receive a separate result. Keep the original scan and the physical print.

How much does HD unlock cost?

One-time packs: $2.99 for 1, $6.99 for 3, $9.99 for 10, $49 for 50. Preview first; no subscription.
